Project 222

Three-time NCAA world record holder and Olympic champion Josh Kerr came to us with a bold vision: break the mile world record — a record that has stood for over 27 years. Unlike most time-driven goals, Josh didn’t want pursue it quietly. He wanted to publicly call his shot months leading up to the race and invite the world to watch. Our team was tasked with bringing his goal to life. I had the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to help name his goal (inspired by the 222 seconds it would take to break the record), work with a team to concept and deploy a tease and announcement, and create an in-depth, four-part series that highlighted his build toward the race. It was a monumental effort. Together, we were able to generate global awareness and excitement in the months leading up to his race. In the end, Project 222 was a success and became a landmark moment for the brand, the sport, and everyone who helped bring it to life.

One of the highlights of developing the series was being entrusted to conduct the interviews. Over a series of weeks, I sat down with Josh, his friends, family, and team to craft stories that shine a light on Josh’s history, integrity, and determination.

Create Hype

Two days before Josh’s mile world record goal announcement, we created a teaser to generate intrigue without fully unveiling his goal.

Days later, we put out the official announcement, declaring Josh’s bold goal and the name of it to the world.

The announcement and the name “Project 222” were immediately picked up by news outlets worldwide with interpretation, speculation, and excitement.

Our goal was achieved. The whole world heard his bold claim and was waiting eagerly for his performance on July 18.
